The aircraft of US air carrier Eastern Airlines (2D/EAL) landed at Split Airport on Thursday, September 26th. A Boeing 767-300ER, with registation N703KW, arrived from London Gatwick Airport. It arrived with a flight no. 2D1522/EAL1522 to pick up the passangers left stranded in Split after the bankruptcy of the UK air carrier Thomas Cook Airlines (MT/TCX).
Eastern Air Lines (EA/EAL) is the name of the company which was founded in 1926. It operated flights in the USA until their bankruptcy in 1991. The new company, with the same name and same logo, was founded in 2015. Operational base is in Miami, Florida. Another US air carrier Swift Air (WQ/SWQ) bought this airline in 2017, keeping both companies’ names unchanged. Eastern Airlines operates mostly charter flights from Miami to destinations in the Carribean Sea and South America. Currently they have a fleet of 4 Boeing 767-200ERs and 4 larger Boeing 767-300ERs. Previosly they also used 5 Boeing 737-800s.
At the same day for the passangers of bankrupt Thomas Cooka also arriverd the aircraft of Lithuanian air carrier Avion Express (X9/NVD), an Airbus A320, with registration LY-VEB. It arrived under the callsign of UK air carrier Titan Airways (ZT/AWC). The arrival flight no. was ZT1934/AWC1934 from Manchester. This aircraft wears the livery of Thomas Cook, because it was leased to this UK air carrier until it went bankrupt.
A day earlier, at Wednesday, September, 25th, the aicraft of the same company arrived to Dubrovnik Airport, aslo for the passanger of Thomas Cook. It was bigger Airbus A321, with registation LY-VEC. It arrived to under the callsign of UK air carrier Titan Airwaysa, no. ZT1076/AWC1076 from Manchester. This aircraft was previsously also leased to Tomas Cook, and still wears Thomas Cook livery.
