Starting this summer, Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines will offer their passengers unlimited free messaging on all long-haul flights. Travelers across all classes will be able to send and receive messages, including photos, using popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram on their smartphones or tablets.
This initiative builds upon the success of free messaging services previously introduced on short and medium-haul flights. Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience, stating, “The introduction of free messaging on long-haul flights is another important step in continuously improving our customers’ overall travel experience.”
To access the service, passengers need to log into the FlyNet portal using their Miles & More service card number or create an account during the flight. While messaging will be free, web browsing will still require a paid Wi-Fi pass, which ranges from three to ten euros.
This move aligns with a broader industry trend of enhancing in-flight connectivity. Other airlines, such as Turkish Airlines, have also announced plans to provide free and unlimited Wi-Fi across their entire fleet by the end of 2025.
