Croatia Airlines expects to take delivery of three more Airbus A220 aircraft by the end of 2026, while the final, fifteenth aircraft is scheduled to arrive during 2027, completing the Croatian flag carrier’s full fleet renewal project.

As AvioRadar has exclusively learned in a conversation with Croatia Airlines, the remaining four aircraft will be named Karlovac, Sisak, Varaždin and Vinkovci.

“According to the currently planned delivery schedule, three more new Airbus A220 aircraft are expected to be delivered by the end of 2026, while the arrival of the final, fifteenth aircraft and the completion of the fleet renewal project are expected during 2027,” Croatia Airlines said in response to AvioRadar’s media inquiry.

Under the current plan, the fleet is therefore expected to grow to a total of 14 Airbus A220 aircraft by the end of this year, with the fifteenth example due to be delivered next year.

Croatia Airlines cautioned, however, that the schedule should be regarded as provisional. Deliveries of new aircraft have already been postponed several times due to disruptions in global supply chains, complex testing and certification procedures, labour shortages at manufacturing facilities and strong demand for new aircraft.

“Given the broader geopolitical uncertainty and continuing instability in supply chains, the stated delivery schedule should therefore be considered provisional,” the Croatian flag carrier emphasised.

Croatia Airlines also confirmed to AvioRadar that the final four aircraft from the order will be named after Karlovac, Sisak, Varaždin and Vinkovci.

When selecting the names, the airline primarily considered the size of Croatian cities, while also seeking to represent different parts of the country and highlight their historical, cultural and tourism significance.

“Most of the selected cities are among Croatia’s largest, with exceptions such as Vukovar, which was chosen because of its particular symbolic, historical and tourism importance. In this way, Croatia Airlines aircraft further contribute to presenting Croatian cities and promoting Croatia around the world,” the airline said.

Croatia Airlines is carrying out its fleet renewal project by transitioning to a single aircraft type, the Airbus A220. Once the final aircraft has been delivered, the Croatian flag carrier’s fleet is expected to consist of a total of 15 aircraft of this type.
