First A320neo teardown underway

Unical Aviation has become the first company to initiate a disassembly program for Airbus A320neo aircraft. The first aircraft from this series will be dismantled as early as this month.

David Dicken, Executive Vice President of Unical Aviation, emphasized that this project aims to address market needs: “As pioneers in A320neo disassembly, we’re securing valuable spare parts for airlines and maintenance centers worldwide.” The company plans long-term acquisition of additional “older” A320neo aircraft with the same goal of disassembly and spare parts trading.

Although the A320neo is considered a new-generation aircraft that’s significantly newer than many A320ceo models still in operation, some aircraft have reached sufficient age for disassembly.

One of the key reasons for the early retirement of these aircraft may be the need for spare engines, particularly the Pratt & Whitney GTF and CFM Leap engines, which require more frequent inspections and upgrades. Of approximately 600 “older” A320neo aircraft, 360 are equipped with GTF engines.

Unical highlights that dismantling A320neo models will accelerate the availability of next-generation components on the market. While the A320neo shares about 95% of common parts with older A320ceo versions, this move enables faster resolution of maintenance issues.
