Dismantling of Ural Airlines’ A320 has begun

On 6 September, Ural Airlines announced that the dismantling of the Airbus A320 (reg. RA-73805) had begun, which landed in a field in Novosibirsk after a failure of the hydraulic system and the resulting lack of fuel, the portal Novostiot66.ru reports.

On 12 September 2023, the Ural Airlines Airbus A320 landed in a field near Novosibirsk in Siberia. That is, in short, the epilogue of flight U61283 on the line Sochi – Omosk when, after a hydraulic failure, the captain decided to divert to Novosibirsk due to the longer runway there compared to the one at the intended destination. According to Avherald, due to problems with the hydraulics (green hydraulic system), the crew was able to retract the landing gear, but the landing gear door remained open, which caused a 25% increase in fuel consumption, which caused the aircraft to run out of fuel earlier than expected. After declaring an emergency, the crew chose a wheat field to land on. A technically almost perfect emergency landing was performed, and none of the 167 passengers and crew members were seriously injured, and only 5 passengers requested medical assistance. 200 kg of fuel was found in the plane upon landing, not enough to reach Novosibirsk, about 70 NM away.

In October 2023, the carrier confirmed that it would try enabling the A320 to take off from the improvised runway in the field where it landed, only to say in January 2024 that it had abandoned that plan. The aircraft was then partially preserved, with no indication of what and when the carrier would do with it.

Dismantling should be completed by December of this year, and Ural Airlines states that some of the parts will be reused.
