Discover Airlines plans fleet expansion and introduction of Airbus A350

Lufthansa Group’s leisure carrier, Discover Airlines, has announced a new phase of growth that includes expanding its fleet to a total of 40 aircraft by mid-2028. As part of this plan, the airline will gradually introduce four wide-body Airbus A350-900s starting in 2027, making this model the new flagship of its long-haul operations.

The first A350-900 could be deployed on existing routes to destinations such as Windhoek and Orlando, while its long range will also enable the airline to open new routes to destinations in South and Central America, southern Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Alongside the introduction of the new type, Discover Airlines also plans to renew and expand its existing Airbus A330 and A320 fleets. The long-haul fleet, which currently consists of 14 A330s, will grow to 16 aircraft – exclusively the A330-300 variant – by the end of 2026, while three older A330-200s will be retired. All A330s will be equipped with a new generation of cabins featuring three travel classes.

The narrow-body A320 fleet will also expand – two new A320s will join in 2026, with another two by mid-2028, bringing the total number to 20.

“With the continued development and expansion of our fleet, including the planned introduction of the Airbus A350, we are further enhancing our offering and creating an even more comfortable and attractive travel experience for our guests. The new aircraft, extended range, and modernized cabin will allow us to respond even better to passenger needs and strengthen the leisure segment within the Lufthansa Group,” said Bernd Bauer, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Airlines.
