Those who have the experience of losing checked luggage know how long and tiring the process of finding it can be. Many travelers have therefore begun to mark their checked baggage with the Apple accessory AirTag, which, by transmitting a Bluetooth signal, enables them to track the location of their marked baggage via an application on their Apple mobile devices. Despite this, in the event of the loss of such marked luggage, the owners often failed to report the tracked location to the competent airline. Despite the received information, the aviation services for finding baggage did not have ways to use the received information about the location of the lost piece of luggage, but they searched with long-term manual internal protocols and methods of finding.
From now on, Apple has made it possible to incorporate the information obtained in this way into a faster process of finding lost luggage. Namely, in the near future AirTag users will be able to safely share the obtained location with a selected user, i.e. the luggage tracking service, via the new Share Item Location feature. The airline would include the information thus obtained in its baggage tracking systems, such as the widely used WorldTracer, all with the aim of finding it faster.
Initially, 15 major airlines decided to use the new Apple feature: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling. The first of them expect the start of the application of the new feature at the beginning of 2025.
