Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has finalized its agreement with Airbus for the purchase of 100 A321neo aircraft, converting the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June into a firm order. The deal marks one of the largest single aircraft commitments in Southeast Asia this year, further strengthening Vietjet’s position as Vietnam’s largest private airline.
With this contract, Vietjet brings its total A321neo orders to 280 aircraft, continuing its ambitious fleet modernization and network expansion strategy. The signing follows only a few months after the airline’s May order for 20 A330neo widebody aircraft, reinforcing its long-term strategic partnership with Airbus.
Company Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao emphasized that the partnership goes beyond commercial terms. “This is not merely a business contract, but a symbol of trust, ambition, and a shared vision for sustainable development and global connectivity,” said Thao.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales, underlined that the A321neo perfectly suits Vietjet’s growth plans. “The A321neo has proven its efficiency and flexibility, making it the ideal platform to support Vietjet’s expansion. Combined with the A330neo, this fleet will deliver the best economics and seamless operational commonality — hallmarks of the Airbus product family,” he noted.
By the end of September 2025, Airbus had recorded more than 7,100 A321neo orders from nearly 100 customers worldwide. The aircraft is currently capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), to reach 100% SAF capability by 2030 — directly supporting the aviation industry’s sustainability targets.
