Two unfortunate incidents at airport aprons

On 8 January 2025, an incident occurred at Brussels Airport involving a Boeing 737 operated by the Belgian airline TUI. The Boeing 737-700 (registration OO-JAR) had been returning from Malaga, Spain, on flight TB1012 before the incident. After the passengers had disembarked and the aircraft was parked empty on the apron at Brussels Airport, the front landing gear suddenly collapsed. TUI said it was investigating the incident to determine the cause of the incident, but said there was no technical problem with the aircraft or human error that could have caused the landing gear to collapse.

This follows another incident involving the same airline late last year. At East Midlands Airport in England on 16 December 2024, a TUI flight attendant fell from their Boeing 737 aircraft while preparing the aircraft for a flight to Lanzarote, Spain. After all the aircraft doors were initially closed and secured for flight, a flight attendant reopened one of the doors after the mobile stairs had already been removed, causing her to fall out of the aircraft. The flight attendant was given emergency medical treatment and referred for further treatment. A review of safety protocols and an investigation into the incident are ongoing.
