Statistics on the number of passengers at Croatian airports in 2024.

The beginning of a new calendar year is an opportunity for statistical comparisons of the past year with some of the significant previous years. Passenger numbers in 2024 were compared with the pre-pandemic 2019 and 2023 passenger numbers. The monthly passenger numbers for Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Pula, Rijeka, Osijek and Brač airports were collected from official airport statistics.

Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG / LDZA)

Zagreb Airport handled 4,316,619 passengers in 2024, marking a 25.6% increase from the pre-pandemic 2019 figure (3,435,531 passengers) and a 15.9% rise compared to 2023 (3,723,650 passengers). The peak month for passenger traffic in 2024 was August, with 439,008 passengers, while February saw the lowest, at 245,260. Passenger numbers grew significantly each month in 2024 compared to the same months in both 2019 and 2023.

Sveti Jeronim Airport (SPU / LDSP)

Split Airport served 3,624,150 passengers in 2024, reflecting a 9.8% increase from 2019 (3,301,930 passengers) and an 7.9% rise from 2023 (3,358,902 passengers). The highest traffic was recorded in July, with 770,502 passengers, and the lowest in January, with 30,012 passengers. A decline in passenger numbers was observed during the first quarter of 2024 compared to both 2019 and 2023, while the remaining months showed growth.

Ruđer Bošković Airport (DBV / LDDU)

Dubrovnik Airport registered 2,954,934 passengers in 2024, representing a 2% increase compared to 2019 (2,896,227 passengers) and a notable 22.3% rise compared to 2023 (2,416,818 passengers). The peak month was August, with 530,885 passengers, while the lowest number of passengers was recorded in January (15,095). Passenger numbers dropped in the first quarter, as well as in November and December, when compared to 2019, but the other months experienced growth relative to both 2019 and 2023.

Zadar Airport (ZAD / LDZD)

Zadar Airport recorded 1,593,413 passengers in 2024, a remarkable 98.8% increase from 2019 (801,347 passengers) and a 29.5% rise compared to 2023 (1,230,835 passengers). The busiest month was August, with 335,627 passengers, while February saw the lowest number, with only 1,304 passengers. Passenger numbers in the first and final two months of 2024 were lower than in 2019, while the rest of the year experienced significant growth compared to both 2019 and 2023.

Pula Airport (PUY / LDPL)

Pula Airport handled 509,397 passengers in 2024, a 34% decrease compared to 2019 (771,210 passengers) but a 20% increase compared to 2023 (424,670 passengers). The peak month was July, with 126,042 passengers.

Rijeka Airport (RJK / LDRI)

Rijeka Airport recorded 145,148 passengers in 2024, a 27.7% decline from 2019 (200,841 passengers) and a 6% decrease compared to 2023 (154,367 passengers). The busiest month was August, with 38,143 passengers, and January saw the lowest, with just 544 passengers. For comparison, August 2019 recorded 46,661 passengers. Passenger numbers increased during most winter months in 2024 compared to 2023.

Osijek Airport (OSI / LDOS)

Osijek Airport served 45,756 passengers in 2024, representing a slight 0.3% decrease from 2019 (45,887 passengers) but a 24.4% increase from 2023 (36,791 passengers). The highest number of passengers was recorded in August (6,945), while February saw the lowest (1,123). Notable growth was observed in April (5,005) and May (5,559) of 2024 compared to the same months in 2023 (1,717 and 1,978, respectively). Passenger numbers during the summer peak were consistent across all three years.

Brač Airport (BWK / LDSB)

Brač Airport handled 22,360 passengers in 2024, which is 11.2% fewer than in 2019 (25,190 passengers) but 17.2% more than in 2023 (19,073 passengers). The busiest month was August, with 6,336 passengers, while December recorded the lowest traffic, with just 10 passengers.

In total, Croatian airports handled 13,211,777 passengers in 2024, marking a 15.1% increase compared to 2019 (11,478,163 passengers) and a 16.2% increase compared to 2023 (11,365,106 passengers).

Due to processing of passenger data, an error has been corrected in the number of passengers for January and April 2024 at Franjo Tuđman Airport and for October, November and December 2023 at Sveti Jeronim Airport.
