On Sunday, a new regular air route was established between Moscow and the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang, marking another step in strengthening the increasingly close partnership between the two countries.
The first flight was operated by a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft of the Russian airline Nordwind Airlines, which departed on July 27, 2025, from Sheremetyevo International Airport near Moscow, carrying over 400 passengers. According to information from the Russian Ministry of Transport, one flight per month is planned, in accordance with current passenger demand.
Flight number N45019 lasted approximately nine hours, covering a distance of about 6,400 kilometers between Moscow and Pyongyang. It is a direct route with no stopovers, and the aircraft is equipped internally for long international flights, providing standard conditions for passenger transport to distant destinations.
This move followed the recent visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to North Korea, where he visited the new tourist destination Wonsan-Kalma and met with leader Kim Jong Un. On this occasion, Lavrov expressed Russia’s readiness to promote the resort among its citizens and encourage tourist visits.
Flights between Vladivostok and Pyongyang were resumed already in 2023 after a long break caused by the pandemic, and the new route from Moscow further strengthens transportation links between the two countries.
