Lufthansa has announced a special livery for one of its new Boeing 787-9s to mark the airline’s 100th anniversary in 2026. The aircraft, registered D-ABPU, has already been painted in Charleston, USA, with a unique design that will begin flying worldwide in December as an ambassador of this milestone celebration.
The special design features a blue fuselage above which a white crane hovers – Lufthansa’s symbol since 1918, created by graphic designer and architect Otto Firle. The crane’s wings visually merge with the aircraft’s wings, creating an effect of unity between motion and elegance, tradition and the future. On the left side of the fuselage, the number “100” is integrated, while the right side displays the inscription “1926 / 2026.” A “100” logo is also painted on the underside of the aircraft, visible both from the air and from the ground.
“Our crane symbolizes safety, pioneering spirit, top quality, as well as freedom and reliability. That has been true for 100 years and will remain so in the future. We are proud of our tradition and values, and with this livery we pay tribute to our identity and to all Lufthansa employees who work every day for the safety and well-being of our guests,” said Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines.
The aircraft will be delivered to Frankfurt in November with the new Allegris interior, entering regular service in December. Just ahead of the anniversary year, Lufthansa will thus have a “flying ambassador” promoting the German carrier’s century-long history and values around the world.
