Boeing and China Airlines announced an order for 10 Boeing 777-9 passenger aircraft and four 777-8 Freighter models. With this purchase, China Airlines becomes the first Taiwanese carrier to add the fuel-efficient 777X series to its fleet, which will be deployed on long-haul routes to North America and Europe.
In addition to the firm order, China Airlines secured options for five more 777-9 passenger jets and four additional 777-8 Freighters. China Airlines Chairman Kao Shing-Hwang emphasized that the 777-9 will deliver an exceptional passenger experience, while the 777-8 Freighter will strengthen the airline’s leading position in air cargo through improved efficiency.
The 777-9 passenger model offers 20% lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to older aircraft, with a standard two-class capacity of 426 seats. The 777-8 Freighter provides cargo capacity comparable to the Boeing 747, along with 30% better fuel efficiency and significantly reduced noise levels.
Boeing highlighted that this order continues a nearly 60-year partnership with China Airlines, dating back to the 707 and 727 models. Globally, over 520 777X aircraft have been ordered. China Airlines plans to use the new jets to expand its route network, complementing its existing order of Boeing 787 Dreamliners to further modernize its fleet.
