Eurowings announced that it was closing its official profile on the X social network, where it has 90,700 followers. Although the carrier did not officially announce the reasons, they can be found in the same move by Austrian Airlines, which did the same in October of this year.
Austrian Airlines then publicly announced that it was leaving the X platform due to trends present on that social network: “There is a noticeable increase in the spread of hatred, agitation, and disinformation, and this is not in line with our values,” Austrian Airlines announced at the time.
In a world where social networks have taken over the primacy of marketing and communication with users, that is, passengers, it is surprising that carriers are deciding to make such a move. However, Eurowings emphasized that they are still present on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
Interestingly, US carriers, including American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic, have searched for an alternative on the growing BlueSky platform, which has emerged as a competitor to the X platform, but Lufthansa Group carriers have not yet opened accounts on the aforementioned network.
