Like many airlines around the world, airBaltic faces the challenges of global supply chains and maintenance constraints. Due to the unexpected delay and extended maintenance of Pratt & Whitney engines by the manufacturer, airBaltic has announced that it is canceling 4,670 flights in the 2025 summer schedule. The Latvian airline has a fleet of 49 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, powered by the mentioned engines. Since the engine manufacturer failed to meet its timely maintenance obligations, the operational capability of airBaltic’s fleet was reduced, and the aforementioned decision to adjust the flight schedule was the carrier’s only option.
AirBaltic has canceled flights from Riga to Aberdeen, Belgrade, Cluj-Napoca, Yerevan, Gothenburg, Mykonos, Pristina, Rzeszow, Skopje, and Stavanger. Additionally, flights from Vilnius to Dubrovnik, Ibiza, Rhodes, Chisinau, Tel Aviv, and Valencia, as well as flights from Tallinn to Dubrovnik and Hamburg, and from Tampere, Finland, to Rhodes, have also been canceled.
It is estimated that the cancellations will affect around 67,160 passengers who have the option to choose alternative airBaltic flights or request a refund.
Despite the challenges and necessary reductions, airBaltic continues to operate the majority of its other flights, connecting Baltic countries with over 70 destinations across Europe and the world. airBaltic continues to work closely with Pratt & Whitney to find a sustainable solution for maintenance delays.
