Turkish Airlines has signed the largest widebody aircraft order in its history after concluding a deal with Boeing in Seattle on September 25 for up to 75 Dreamliners. The agreement includes 35 787-9s, 15 of the larger 787-10s, and options for an additional 25 aircraft, significantly strengthening the fleet and modernizing the national carrier’s capacity.
In addition, the airline announced its intent to purchase up to 150 single-aisle 737 MAX aircraft, which, once finalized, will become the largest Boeing narrowbody order in Turkish Airlines’ history. The combined acquisition of Dreamliners and 737 MAX jets will also double the number of Boeing aircraft in the airline’s fleet, which already counts more than 200 Boeing models in service, including the 787-9, 777, 737 MAX, Next-Generation 737, and 777 Freighter.
Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Prof. Ahmet Bolat, emphasized the historic significance of the agreement: “This deal represents far more than just the acquisition of aircraft. It reflects our commitment to innovation and operational excellence, as well as a strategic contribution to achieving our Vision 2033, under which we aim to expand our fleet to 800 aircraft.”
Notably, the introduction of the 787-10 will provide the airline with additional passenger and cargo capacity, as well as improved efficiency on its busiest routes, including those between Istanbul and destinations in the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The Dreamliner, known for its larger windows, lower cabin altitude, and advanced turbulence reduction technology, also offers passengers enhanced comfort.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope highlighted Turkish Airlines’ longstanding role in the global Dreamliner fleet, stating: “We are proud that Turkish Airlines has once again selected the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX as the foundation for its future growth. Our partnership with Türkiye spans 80 years, and this order reaffirms our strong ties and long-term collaboration.”
Boeing has cooperated with the Turkish aviation sector for decades, investing around $2 billion in supply chain development and helping create nearly 5,000 jobs in the country. Alongside the new aircraft order, this further strengthens Türkiye’s position in the global aerospace industry.
According to Boeing, the Dreamliner order alone will support more than 123,000 jobs in the United States, while the entire agreement will further enhance economic and industrial cooperation between Turkish Airlines and Boeing.
