Before you read the title again – yes, it is possible to get from Zagreb to New York using only turboprop and piston planes, but only if you are “crazy” enough. If you are a fan of “propellers” and are eager for adventure, maybe this trip is for you.
By matching various circumstances and flight schedules, in the summer of 2024 it will be possible to get from Zagreb to New York, albeit with 18 flights, but exclusively with turboprop and piston aircraft. So, forget about the comfort and speed of a jet-powered aircraft and indulge in the sounds and vibrations of the “propeller”. You will especially enjoy it if you are a die-hard enthusiast of DeHavilland Canada DHC 8 aircraft, the popular “Dashes”.

Such a journey, even if someone dares to do it, is certainly not for the destination, but for the journey itself. Depending on the connections, it would take 10 to 14 days, the total duration of the flight would be as much as 28 hours, 6,628 nautical miles or 12,275 kilometers would be covered. Such an undertaking would not be cheap by any means, as a one-way trip would cost you between 10 and 15 thousand euros.
In addition to the fact that such a trip would be a real adventure, it would allow you to see and visit some of the most remote cities of the Canadian north, otherwise rarely available on tourist maps. We must not forget that this flight plan includes some rarely seen aircraft in modern and commercial aviation: DHC 8-200 and -300, Cessna 402, Tecnam P2012, KingAir 350.
However, if you are an aviation enthusiast, you can use just a few of the legs above for your next adventure. All that AvioRadar’s editors can recommend is to use “wide bodies” on the way back, you will need rest 🙂
