Dubai Airshow concludes, marked by record orders and a tragic ending

This year’s Dubai Airshow 2025 delivered one of the most commercially intense weeks in global aviation, marked by a series of major orders and strategic decisions confirming the strong recovery of the aircraft market. The largest individual move came from flydubai, which ordered 150 A321neos, completely redefining its previously Boeing-oriented fleet. Etihad strengthened its modernization path with an order for six A330-900neos, three A350Fs and seven A350-1000s, while Air Europa placed an order for forty A350-900s for long-haul operations. Emirates reaffirmed its position as one of Boeing’s key partners by signing a deal for 65 777-9s, giving the 777X program additional stability after years of delays and technical challenges.

Ethiopian Airlines ordered six A350-900s and eleven 737-8s, Air Senegal nine 737-8s, while Gulf Air unveiled a fleet expansion plan with fifteen Boeing 787s. Helvetic Airways selected three E195-E2s with five options, and Air Côte d’Ivoire four E175s with eight options. IndiaOne confirmed the purchase of ten Twin Otter Series 300-G aircraft. Among turboprop orders, two ATR commitments stood out: Air Cambodia ordered an ATR 72-600 featuring the new business-class configuration, while Ethiopian will add two more ATR 72-600s for Air Congo operations through leasing. Additionally, Silk Way ordered two A350Fs, and Libya’s Buraq Air ordered ten A320neos, completing the list of all orders announced during the show.

Despite the strong commercial activity, the Airshow was marked by tragedy. An Indian Tejas fighter jet crashed during a display on the final day of the event, killing the pilot. Available footage does not show any attempt at ejection, and organizers immediately suspended the remaining program. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the United Arab Emirates’ aviation authorities.

Looking at the broader picture, Dubai Airshow 2025 demonstrated that global manufacturers are experiencing a period of strong market momentum. Airbus dominated in total order volume, especially thanks to flydubai and a series of long-haul acquisitions, while Boeing managed to reinforce its visibility through Emirates’ major deal and steady demand for the 787 and 737-8. Compared with this year’s Paris Air Show, Dubai produced a slightly higher number of orders, but more importantly, it delivered a clearer picture of strategic shifts: Paris was the show where Airbus dominated numerically, whereas Dubai became the platform where long-term fleet strategies of Middle Eastern and African carriers took shape and the role of the 777-9 in the widebody segment was reaffirmed.

Dubai Airshow 2025 will thus be remembered as a combination of major commercial agreements, strategic fleet realignments, and a tragic incident that marked its conclusion, while global demand for new-generation aircraft shows that the industry is entering an exceptionally active period.
