Zagreb Airport modernizes passenger and hand baggage security screening

Work is currently underway in the departures area of Franjo Tuđman Airport to replace part of the existing X-ray equipment used for security screening of passengers and hand baggage. This is a continuation of infrastructure modernization aimed at further improving throughput, reliability and efficiency in the security screening process.

The existing older-generation equipment will be replaced with new X-ray systems featuring dual-view technology. These devices provide images of baggage contents from two angles, helping security screening staff make decisions more quickly and efficiently. This reduces the need for additional checks, while making the screening process more effective and operationally more reliable.

Franjo Tuđman Airport has confirmed that the works involve the replacement of existing X-ray devices used for passenger and hand baggage security screening. According to the airport, the existing systems are being replaced with more modern dual-view technology, optimizing operational processes and increasing the reliability of security checks for passengers and their baggage.

With this investment, Zagreb Airport is replacing older-generation equipment with a more efficient solution that directly supports security screening staff in making faster decisions. As the airport points out, this is an additional modernization of infrastructure within the security screening process.

An important part of the modernization also concerns the baggage screening lanes themselves. The new lanes will be automated in terms of baggage diversion, meaning that bags requiring additional inspection can be automatically redirected to a separate section of the lane without stopping the overall flow of passengers and baggage. Such a solution generally enables higher throughput and reduces bottlenecks during periods of increased traffic.

Zagreb Airport already has three automated passenger baggage screening lanes, and the new equipment will further complement this system. This continues the gradual introduction of more modern technological solutions at one of the most sensitive points in the passenger process, where security requirements, operational efficiency and passenger experience must all be balanced.

The modernization of security screening comes at a time when airports are increasingly expected to handle growing traffic with faster and more efficient processes, without compromising safety and security. Replacing older X-ray devices with new dual-view technology is therefore not only a technical upgrade, but also an investment in a more stable, reliable and efficient departure process at Zagreb Airport.
