Latvian airline airBaltic has celebrated a major milestone with the reveal of its 50th Airbus A220-300, featuring a unique livery that honors the Baltic region. The special aircraft, presented in collaboration with Airbus, was unveiled in Mirabel, Canada, marking the first in-person reveal of the milestone jet.
The eye-catching design showcases a symbolic depiction of a girl soaring through the clouds, adorned with a traditional wreath and the Latvian flag. It also incorporates elements representing all three Baltic nations—Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania—including a ladybug, a swallow, and a stork, inspired by the region’s heritage and nature.
CEO Martin Gauss highlighted airBaltic’s pioneering role as the global launch operator of the A220-300, emphasizing that this milestone completes the airline’s initial order and brings it closer to its goal of a 100 aircraft fleet by 2030. “Every time this aircraft takes to the skies, it will proudly carry a part of the Baltic spirit with it,” Gauss stated.
The livery design was chosen through a public contest, with over 28,000 airBaltic Club members voting from 840 submissions. The painting process took 18 days, using 21 colors and a stencil overlay technique—a first for Airbus A220 paintshop teams.
The aircraft is set to officially join the airBaltic fleet in February 2025, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to innovation and regional pride.
