Limited return of air traffic in the UAE: First flights depart from Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Despite ongoing security threats and heightened regional tensions, part of the air traffic in the United Arab Emirates is gradually resuming. Authorities in Dubai confirmed that on the evening of March 2 a limited number of operations would restart from the city’s two main airports, just hours after air traffic had been almost completely suspended due to the threat of Iranian military strikes.

According to information published on the official airport websites, only a small number of flights were cleared for departure. Among the carriers planning to resume services is Emirates, which announced a limited schedule of evening departures. Passengers with earlier bookings are being prioritized, while those rebooked onto the available flights will be contacted directly by the airline.

Scheduled departures include flights from Dubai to several destinations in India, including Mumbai and Chennai, as well as services to New Delhi and Bangalore. At the same time, low-cost carrier flydubai planned a handful of evening operations, including routes to Russian cities such as Kazan and Yekaterinburg.

A similarly cautious resumption was recorded in Abu Dhabi. Although flights had been grounded earlier in the day, flight-tracking data showed that several aircraft later departed from the capital’s main airport. Among the first to leave was an Etihad Airways Airbus A380 bound for London Heathrow, followed by additional flights to Riyadh, Amsterdam, and Islamabad.

The limited reopening of air traffic signals an attempt to stabilize the situation and gradually restore operations, but schedules remain subject to change depending on security assessments and further developments in the region. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights regularly before heading to the airport.
