In accordance with the published NOTAM (Notice To Air Missions) and the AIP SUPs of the Croatian Air Traffic Control, we are transmitting information about the works at Franjo Tuđman Airport. According to SUP 006/2022 published in the AIP, the works were announced as early as November 17, 2022. Later, the SUP was expanded, mostly with the same information, and the same was published in SUP 002/2023 published on January 12, 2023. Considering the works were announced in the AIP, which is a publicly available document, all interested parties including airlines such as Ryanair (currently canceling flights due to runway closures) had information available in time. Why Ryanair continued to sell tickets on flights affected, why the flights were not moved to an earlier hour and why they are canceling flights remains unknown.
As a reminder, the AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) is defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as a publication issued by or with the authorization of the state and which contains aeronautical information of a permanent nature essential for air navigation. For the purpose of air traffic safety, air carriers or their operational centers are obliged to follow the information published in the AIP.
SUPs and NOTAMs additionally note that the closure of the airport includes all traffic, without exception, even for emergency flights, flights for search and rescue purposes, etc.
Below we transmit SUPs from AIP and NOTAM announcing works on runway 04/22 and taxiway F, exclusively at night, starting from May 1, 2023. The entire airport will be closed from May 2 – 31 2023 from 23:00 to 06:30 local time. The works will include changing the asphalt surface in a length of 2,262 m (between taxiways B and E), and on taxiway F between taxiways C and E. Aditionally, AvioRadar learns that works on the approach lighting for runway 22 as well as ILS calibration will be included in the works.

On February 9, 2023, a new SUP was published announcing works on the meteorological infrastructure, which should not interfere with the normal operation of the airport.
The concessionaire company of Zagreb Airport explains: „In the period from May 2 to 31, 2023, from 11:00 p.m. to 6:25 a.m., regular maintenance work will take place on the runway and taxiway marked “F”, as well as work on the replacement of the approach lighting system of direction 22, at Franjo Tuđman Airport. These are works that have been planned in advance, and will take place in the month of May due to weather conditions and the necessary execution technology. The execution date and duration of the works were announced in a timely manner to all airlines flying to Zagreb, so that they could coordinate their flight schedules.
We advise passengers to contact the airline with which they plan to travel directly for all flight inquiries.“
