Vietjet’s fleet expansion with Airbus A330neo

Aiming to continuously expand its international network, Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private low-cost airline, has ordered an additional 20 Airbus A330-900neo wide-body aircraft.

The order was signed in Hanoi in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, during the French President’s official visit to Vietnam.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, President of Vietjet, said at the order signing: “The modern Airbus aircraft, with the latest levels of efficiency and lower fuel consumption, have accompanied Vietjet’s growth and will continue to support the expansion of our global flight network. Vietjet remains committed to providing greater connectivity and sustainable air travel for millions of passengers worldwide.

Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Executive Vice President, Commercial Aircraft Sales at Airbus, added: “Vietjet has proven itself to be one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, offering low fares with a warm Vietnamese hospitality. We are proud that the carrier has chosen the A330neo as its widebody aircraft to continue its success and look forward to continuing our partnership as Vietjet expands its reach.

According to an official Airbus announcement, Vietjet’s fleet currently consists of 115 A320 Family aircraft and seven A330-300 aircraft. The order brings Vietjet’s order book for the widebody A330-900neo to 40 aircraft. It also has an order book for 96 narrowbody A320neo aircraft.

Vietjet currently operates international flights to Australia, India and Kazakhstan with its A330-300. The A330neo fleet on order will enable the continued expansion of the network to longer-haul destinations on high-capacity routes across the Asia-Pacific region and the potential introduction of flights to Europe, meeting growing passenger demand.

The A330-900 is powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. The aircraft is capable of flying 7,200 nm (13,300 km) non-stop. The A330neo features the award-winning Airspace cabin, which offers passengers a unique experience, high levels of comfort, ambience and design. This includes more individual space, increased overhead hand luggage compartments, a new lighting system as well as access to the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.

As of the end of April 2025, the A330 Family had received over 1,800 firm orders from more than 130 customers worldwide. Like all aircraft in production, the A330neo can operate on up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with the aim of increasing to 100% SAF capability by 2030.
