U.S. accepts donated 747 from Qatar as new Air Force One

The United States has received a Boeing 747 as a gift from Qatar, and the U.S. Air Force has been tasked with modifying it as soon as possible for use as the new Air Force One, the Pentagon reported. According to official statements, the aircraft is valued at approximately $400 million.

Reuters reports that although the Qatari ruling family donated this luxury jet, its conversion will require extensive security upgrades, including protection against espionage and missile threats. Experts emphasize that such modifications could cost hundreds of millions of dollars, though the exact amount remains unknown.

The Pentagon confirmed that the Department of Defense will ensure compliance with all safety and operational standards. “We will review all aspects to guarantee the aircraft meets stringent requirements,” said spokesman Sean Parnell.

According to Reuters, the existing project to build two new Air Force One planes has already exceeded its $5 billion budget, with delivery delayed until 2027. Boeing was awarded a $3.9 billion contract in 2018, but costs have risen significantly, and the company has already recorded $2.4 billion in losses.

Political critics, particularly Democrats, have raised concerns about accepting such an expensive gift from a foreign government, warning of potential ethical issues. However, Trump dismissed such criticisms as “nonsense.” Qatar, meanwhile, rejects any doubts about its motives, stating that the donation is a gesture of goodwill.
