After 10 years of interruption of traffic between Istanbul and Libya, Turkish Airlines is flying again to the capital of Libya, Tripoli. The main airport in Tripoli – Tripoli International Airport is closed due to destruction during the war, and since it was not rebuilt, the role of the main airport in Tripoli was taken over by the much smaller Mitiga Airport. Before the war, this airport was served mainly by charter flights related to the oil industry. The most important European airlines such as Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Alitalia, etc. used to operate flights to Tripoli International Airport.
For now, Turkish Airlines will fly three times a week with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The flight to Tripoli takes 3 hours, while the return flight takes 3 hours and 20 minutes.
