On 1 September, SAS left Star Alliance and joined SkyTeam. On that occasion, Star Alliance announced today through a press release that selected members of the alliance are offering a “status adjustment or challenge” as part of the frequent flyer loyalty program in the Scandinavian countries. SAS EuroBonus members who have the appropriate frequent flyer status can claim equivalent status in the loyalty program of any participating Star Alliance airline.
This offer is attractive to customers in Northern Europe who are looking for seamless connectivity and the unmatched passenger loyalty benefits offered by Star Alliance. Star Alliance members operate more than 3,650 flights per month to Scandinavian countries from 26 destinations worldwide, offering customers connections to more than 1,070 international destinations — more than any other airline alliance.
Airlines participating in the campaign to align status are Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa Group Airlines, South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal, THAI, Turkish Airlines and United. Status may be matched to equivalent Gold and Silver levels, subject to conditions.
“When it comes to frequent flyer loyalty programs, customers in Northern Europe want the value that only Star Alliance can offer. They want to continue to experience seamless travel and premium status benefits with Star Alliance members,” said Renato Ramos, Vice President of Corporate Strategy. “Members with a significant presence in Scandinavia offer an attractive opportunity to match status. We expect it to be well received by our valued users in the Nordic countries.”
Status holders can simply request a status match or participate in the status challenge of the above airline programs by visiting staralliance.com/statusmatch. Participation in the promotional program is voluntary and free of charge. The promotional offer is available from September 1 to November 30 this year. Different terms and conditions apply to each status match or challenge and are available on the website. The status matching or challenge offer is made possible by StatusMatch.com in partnership with Star Alliance and participating airlines.
18 Star Alliance members continue to offer direct flights to and from Scandinavian countries, including Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, ANA, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, Ethiopian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, THAI, Turkish Airlines and United. Star Alliance is still the largest and most important global airline alliance and provides 17,500 daily departures to 189 countries.
