Porter Airlines has launched a comprehensive cabin refresh across its fleet of De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft as part of efforts to further enhance the economy travel experience. All 29 aircraft will be fitted with the latest generation of Expliseat’s TiSeat 2V seats, along with a series of additional interior improvements.

The first refurbished aircraft have already returned to service, while the entire fleet is expected to be completed this fall.

Expliseat describes the TiSeat 2V as the world’s lightest aircraft seat in its category. The latest generation introduces redesigned seat and back cushions developed to Porter’s specifications, updated tray tables and integrated holders for personal electronic devices, allowing passengers to watch content hands-free.

First-row seats have also been redesigned and equipped with new tray tables to provide passengers with additional personal space.

The seats feature an advanced carbon-fibre and titanium structure, reducing the aircraft’s overall weight. The lower weight is expected to contribute to reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions throughout the aircraft’s operational life.

In addition to the new seats, Porter is installing LED technology with mood lighting, new LED reading lights and new carpeting throughout the cabins.

“Our passengers told us that seat comfort is a meaningful part of their experience, even on shorter regional flights. Updating seats, along with other cabin upgrades, will noticeably refresh and modernize the overall environment,” said Kent Woodside, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Porter Airlines.

He added that the airline would continue prioritizing comfort and genuine hospitality, noting that Porter is the first Canadian airline to operate Dash 8 aircraft with the enhanced cabin.

The refurbishment marks the next phase of the long-standing collaboration between Porter Airlines and Expliseat.

Porter’s Dash 8-400 aircraft are primarily deployed on regional routes in Eastern Canada and to destinations in the United States.

The cabin configuration and seat pitch will remain unchanged. The aircraft will continue to feature 78 seats in a 2-2 layout, meaning there are no middle seats. PorterReserve passengers receive 32 inches, or approximately 81 centimetres, of seat pitch, while PorterClassic offers 30 inches, or around 76 centimetres.
