Lufthansa introduces more flexible payment options through new partnership with Klarna and Adyen

The Lufthansa Group has announced a new collaboration with digital bank Klarna and global fintech platform Adyen, bringing passengers entirely new payment models when purchasing airline tickets and additional services starting mid-November 2025. This marks one of the most significant upgrades to the customer experience in recent years, giving travelers greater control over how they finance their journey.

The new payment options, built on Adyen’s infrastructure and powered by Klarna’s flexible solutions, will be available to travelers from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and several other key markets. In addition to the standard one-time payment option, Lufthansa is introducing two new choices. “Pay Later” allows customers to book immediately and pay after a predefined period, while “Financing” enables installment payments for higher-value bookings over a longer timeline.

With this move, the Lufthansa Group further strengthens its digital strategy and its focus on creating simpler, more transparent, and more adaptable booking processes. According to Oliver Schmitt from the Lufthansa Group Digital Hangar, the goal is to maximize convenience and flexibility for passengers through innovations that go beyond traditional solutions.

Klarna notes that travel is one of the most meaningful investments people make, and flexible payment models increase security and confidence when booking. Adyen highlights that combining their technological platform with Klarna’s products enables a seamless checkout experience, regardless of market or sales channel.

The rollout of the new payment options begins in mid-November in the Lufthansa Group’s home markets, with gradual expansion to all network airlines — Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and Brussels Airlines — by the end of Q2 2026.

With this initiative, the Lufthansa Group underscores its commitment to using digital transformation and financial innovation as key tools to strengthen its competitiveness, while above all creating a simpler, more flexible, and truly customer-centric booking experience.
