From Abu Dhabi to Luxembourg with the Airbus A321LR

Etihad Airways will launch the first and only nonstop air service between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi on October 29, 2026, with the Airbus A321LR at the heart of this milestone expansion. The move marks a historic step, as Etihad becomes the first Middle Eastern airline to operate scheduled services to Luxembourg, while simultaneously establishing the sole nonstop connection between the two destinations.

The route to Luxembourg Airport (LUX) will be operated by the Airbus A321LR, the long-range variant of the A321 that enables Etihad to open medium-sized markets without compromising on product quality. This aircraft is a central pillar of the airline’s network strategy, combining intercontinental range with a cabin standard traditionally associated with widebody aircraft.

Etihad’s A321LR features a three-class cabin configuration, a rarity in the narrowbody segment. At the front of the cabin are First Suites, enclosed private spaces offering a high level of comfort and exclusivity. The Business Class is equipped with fully lie-flat seats, all with direct aisle access, while the next-generation Economy Class offers generous legroom, 4K touchscreen displays and Bluetooth connectivity. High-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the aircraft.

Flights will operate three times weekly, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with schedules tailored to both business and leisure travellers. Early morning departures from Abu Dhabi and convenient return timings from Luxembourg allow for efficient connections across Etihad’s wider network.

For Etihad, the A321LR is a key tool for strengthening its European presence, particularly across the Benelux region, western Germany and eastern France, where demand exists for direct long-haul connectivity but not at volumes requiring larger aircraft. At the same time, Luxembourg gains its first direct link to the Middle East, reinforcing economic, financial and tourism ties with the United Arab Emirates.

Passengers travelling via Abu Dhabi will benefit from onward connections to Asia and the Indian subcontinent through Zayed International Airport (AUH), while travellers from the UAE gain direct access to one of Europe’s key financial centres. The combination of range, capacity and a premium cabin makes the A321LR the defining element of this new route, underlining how the role of narrowbody aircraft in long-haul operations continues to expand.
