Etihad Airways has unveiled a new generation of passenger products and services under its Beyond Borders concept, one of the key elements of which will be completely new cabins for the Airbus A330neo. The first new A330 is expected to enter service in September 2027, while the airline plans to introduce a total of 15 aircraft of the type into its fleet over five years. Alongside the new cabins, Etihad is also introducing the Etihad Wellbeing programme, bringing together a range of services focused on passenger comfort, rest and wellbeing throughout the journey.

The new A330 will be configured with three travel classes and a total of 280 seats. At the front of the cabin, there will be four First Class suites with doors, each offering enough space for a passenger to host a companion for dining or socialising during the flight. Each suite will feature a 32-inch screen, wireless charging, dedicated storage space and its own area with cosmetic products.

Business Class will feature 24 seats that convert into fully flat beds. All seats will face forward, offer direct aisle access and feature sliding doors for greater privacy. Equipment will include 17.3-inch screens, wired and wireless charging, a large table and dedicated storage compartments for personal belongings.

Economy Class will feature 252 seats equipped with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays and charging options for personal devices. Of these, 32 seats will be designated as Extra Legroom seats and will offer four inches, or approximately ten centimetres, of additional space. The new A330s will primarily be deployed on regional and medium-haul routes to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Etihad also intends to increase the presence of First Class across its fleet. After introducing First Class suites and fully flat Business Class seats on its new Airbus A321LR, the airline is now extending a similar premium concept to the A330. Over the next five years, the number of First Class seats across the fleet is expected to increase through new aircraft deliveries and cabin retrofit programmes. First Apartments and The Residence will continue to be offered on the Airbus A380.

The new interior is part of the broader Beyond Borders programme, through which Etihad aims to create a more consistent design and passenger experience across different aircraft types, airport lounges and other services. The new design identity is inspired by Abu Dhabi and a “sand to superstructure” concept, while selected elements will gradually be introduced on other aircraft, including the A321LR.

Beyond Borders forms part of a USD 20 billion investment cycle covering new aircraft acquisitions and the development of Etihad’s passenger product. Of that amount, USD 1 billion has been allocated to a programme to upgrade the existing fleet. Etihad says the changes will gradually extend across cabins, lounges, food and beverage offerings, passenger amenities, connectivity and other elements of the travel experience.

The concept also includes the new Etihad Wellbeing programme, which brings together a range of existing and new services aimed at improving passenger comfort and rest. These include reducing unnecessary cabin announcements through the Quiet Cabin initiative, dedicated quiet areas in lounges, pre-flight spa treatments, meditation, stretching and sleep content within the inflight entertainment system, as well as cabin lighting designed to help reduce the effects of changing time zones.

Changes will also extend to the onboard food and beverage offering, with greater emphasis on nutrient-rich meals, higher-protein options and plant-based dishes. Passengers will also have access to drinks with vitamins and electrolytes, as well as special meals including lactose-free, gluten-free, low-fat, low-salt and low-sodium options.

In First Class and The Residence, Etihad offers natural cotton bedding, memory-foam mattresses and sleepwear, while Business Class passengers receive a new range of amenity kits featuring cosmetic products from Korean brand LANEIGE. Etihad says it is the first airline to partner with the brand. First Class passengers receive ESPA products, including face and eye masks. A new signature scent developed specifically for Etihad is also being introduced onboard and in its lounges.

Etihad is therefore simultaneously expanding its fleet and seeking to standardise its product across different aircraft types, while strengthening its premium cabin and First Class offering. The new A330 is expected to become one of the key elements of that process from 2027, while elements of the Beyond Borders and Etihad Wellbeing programmes will gradually be introduced across the rest of the fleet and the airline’s ground services.
