As previously mentioned, and as the informed public is already aware, Wi-Fi is now available on board Croatia Airlines’ Airbus A220 aircraft.
Croatia Airlines selected Panasonic Avionics as their service provider, thanks to their Ku-band solution, which meets the airline’s stringent network service requirements. This choice ensures full compatibility with the Airbus A220 platform. The Ku-band antenna installed on Croatia Airlines’ new A220 fleet connects each aircraft to Panasonic Avionics’ high-speed, high-bandwidth global satellite communications network, effectively placing capacity where it is most needed to meet the demands of airlines and their passengers.
During the inaugural flight to Split, we tested the onboard internet and found it to be of high quality, with fast, uninterrupted connectivity. Additionally, accessing the Wi-Fi is straightforward and user-friendly, especially when compared to Wi-Fi services on Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines, which often require lengthy registration processes or login via a Miles&More account.
Passengers connect to the Internet by selecting the ‘CroatiaAirlinesWiFi’ network, which automatically leads to a browser login. The home page shows the destination, the remaining flight time, and the distance from the destination, as well as available online content such as travel magazines, etc.
Internet access becomes available once the aircraft reaches an altitude of over 10,000 feet, as indicated on the home screen. Passengers will also see illuminated markers above their seats when Wi-Fi is enabled. At that point, you can select your desired service and choose how long you’d like to stay connected. It’s worth noting that additional content—such as destination information, flight times, and online editions—is accessible without the need for a paid service.
A new feature is the eJournal, offering passengers free access to a wide selection of digital newspapers and magazines, even without an active internet connection. To enjoy this service, passengers simply need to download their chosen content via the Croatia Airlines mobile app before take-off. The downloaded eNewspapers can then be read during the flight on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. This service is available from 36 hours before departure until 24 hours after the flight.
