Croatian Air Force pilots make surprise visit to elementary school

A classroom at Grabrik Elementary School in Karlovac turned into a scene of joyful surprise yesterday when members of the Croatian Air Force (HRZ) made an unexpected appearance. The special visit was inspired by a school project created by 8th grader Patrik Arkij, a young boy who dreams of becoming a military pilot.

As part of a school assignment about future careers, Patrik had produced a short film imagining himself as an air force pilot. His inspiration came from attending the recent AIRVG 2025 airshow, where he explored aircraft and spoke with pilots alongside his father. His video even featured him pretending to put on flight gear and enter a cockpit—but he never imagined his project would receive such an extraordinary response.

The excitement reached new heights when Lieutenant Matej Ravlić and Lieutenant Karlo Brus, HRZ pilots, walked into the school. Their entrance sparked cheers from students, leaving Patrik visibly moved.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes. This is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” said Patrik, adding that his biggest dream is to fly a Rafale, the most advanced fighter jet in the Croatian Air Force fleet.

Lieutenant Ravlić praised the young student’s enthusiasm: “Moments like these remind us why we love our job. We’re thrilled to see young people like Patrik dreaming about aviation, and we hope to welcome him into our ranks one day.”

During their visit, the pilots showed promotional materials about the HRZ and answered numerous questions from curious students. Teachers noted that this special event served as powerful motivation, proving to students that dedication and hard work pay off.
