Boeing announces that its fleet of 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft has carried over one billion passengers, achieving this milestone faster than any other widebody commercial aircraft in history. This remarkable accomplishment was reached in less than 14 years since entering service, solidifying the Dreamliner as one of the most successful aircraft in modern aviation.
The global fleet of over 1,175 787 aircraft has completed nearly five million flights, accumulating over 30 million flight hours. “This historic milestone would not have been possible without the trust and support of our customers who operate the 787, and we are deeply grateful to each of them,” said Scott Stocker, Vice President and General Manager of the Boeing 787 program. “The 787 Dreamliner family was designed to connect people and places in entirely new ways. Carrying one billion passengers in such a short time demonstrates how this aircraft has delivered on its promises, revolutionizing air travel with operational versatility, efficiency, and comfort. This achievement reflects the dedication, talent, and innovation of all our employees and partners who brought the 787 family to life. To every operator flying the Dreamliner and every one of the billion passengers who have flown on it—thank you!”
To commemorate this historic moment, Boeing released a special video honoring the passengers, partners, and people behind the success of the 787 Dreamliner. The company invites everyone connected to this aircraft—operators, passengers, suppliers, and Boeing employees—to share their memories on social media using the hashtag #Dreamliner.
The Dreamliner fleet, consisting of over 1,175 aircraft, operates in 85 countries, landing at 520 airports, including 425 new nonstop routes to previously unconnected destinations. Daily, it completes 2,100 flights, transporting 480,000 passengers, totaling approximately 14.5 million people per month. On average, each 787 spends more than 12 hours in the air daily, demonstrating exceptional reliability and global demand. The longest nonstop route, London to Perth (7,829 nautical miles), is flown by Qantas, while the shortest, Aruba to Curaçao (65 nautical miles), is operated by TUI as part of a transatlantic triangle route.
The 787 family is 25% more fuel-efficient than the aircraft it replaces, thanks to advanced engines, lightweight composite materials, optimized systems, and modern aerodynamics. As a leading global aerospace company and one of the largest U.S. exporters, Boeing continues to develop, manufacture, and service aircraft, driving innovation, economic opportunity, and sustainability, with a steadfast commitment to safety, quality, and integrity.
