Avolon, one of the world’s leading aviation finance providers, has announced an order for 90 new Airbus aircraft, including 15 widebody A330neo and 75 narrowbody A321neo models. This order further strengthens Avolon’s market position and increases the total number of A330neo aircraft ordered to 79 and A321neo to 264.
Avolon CEO Andy Cronin stated that the decision reflects strong confidence in the long-term demand for new aircraft. He emphasized that, thanks to its scale and strong balance sheet, Avolon is well-positioned to support the expansion and renewal of its airline partners’ fleets in the coming decade. He added that the A321neo and A330neo models are in high demand and that this trend is expected to continue given the long-term growth outlook of the aviation sector. He also expressed satisfaction with deepening Avolon’s long-term partnership with Airbus.
Airbus has also expressed its satisfaction. Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus’ commercial segment, said that leasing companies like Avolon are excellent market barometers and that this order confirms the attractiveness of the A321neo and A330neo models across a wide range of customers. He particularly highlighted the efficiency of both aircraft, their technological advancement, and operational flexibility – from short to long-haul routes. He added that cooperation with Avolon helps open new markets and expand the customer base for both types of aircraft.
The A330neo is powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, has a range of 13,300 kilometers, and enables a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, and operating costs compared to the previous generation. Equipped with the Airspace cabin, it offers passengers greater comfort, more space, improved lighting, and advanced in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.
The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’s A320neo family and delivers over 20 percent fuel savings and a 50 percent reduction in noise compared to older models. With the widest cabin in its class, it provides increased comfort on short- and medium-haul flights while enabling operators to run more efficiently.
Both aircraft types are already certified to operate with up to 50 percent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and Airbus aims to increase that figure to 100 percent by 2030. This order underscores the role of leasing companies like Avolon as key drivers of aviation decarbonization and partners in the transition toward a more sustainable future.
