After 15 years, on May 3, 2022 at 10:05 a.m. Rijeka Airport welcomed easyJet’s aircraft on flight EZY8111 from London Gatwick. This rotation will be operated every Tuesday and Saturday until October 29, 2022. As we already announced, after 15 long years, one of the key airlines responsible for Rijeka Airport’s record traffic in 2006 and 2007, EasyJet, finally returned to Rijeka Airport. An interesting fact is that, back then, Rijeka Airport was the first airport in Croatia served by this great carrier.
- Transavia resumed seasonal flight operations to Rijeka
- Lufthansa resumed seasonal operations to Rijeka
- Air Serbia announced to resume Rijeka flight services
- EasyJet already announced a second route to Rijeka
EasyJet is one of the most important European low-cost carriers, especially from the Great Britain’s market. It has an impressive fleet of 126 A319 aircraft, 168 A320CEO aircraft, 20 A320NEO and 4 A321NEO aircraft, and operates to over 150 airports in 35 countries, connecting almost 1.000 destinations.
After many years of negotiations between Rijeka Airport and EasyJet, thanks to the exceptional effort and commitment of Rijeka Airport Management, mutual consensus has finally been made. Ministry of the sea, transport and infrastructure, Primorsko-goranska County, City of Rijeka, Opatija, Krk, Crikvenica, Omisalj, representatives of hotels Jadran Crikvenica and Hilton Rijeka, and the Tourist Board sector with its participants assured support for promotional activities needed for best positioning of the Kvarner region on the British market, where it’s still pretty unknown. So with these marketing activities, the region will further encourage its presence at the British market, and increase the number of arrivals from Great Britain, which currently accounts for less than 1% of total overnight stays in Kvarner.
At the welcome reception of this new/old airline at Rijeka Airport, an inauguration ceremony was held without the traditional water salute in respect of easyJet’s sustainability programme, and the passengers were welcomed with small gifts from the local Omišalj Tourist Board. EasyJet’s representative Russ Smith, Airport Operations Contract Manager-Outstations and Regional safety advisor, together with Vedrana Čubranić, Business Development Manager of Rijeka Airport, cut the ribbon which symbolizes the official start of this long-term cooperation from which many new routes can be expected in years to come.
Except for London Gatwick, easyJet will also operate the route from Berlin to Rijeka and vice-versa, each Tuesday and Saturday from June 28 until September 2, 2022.
