Adria Airways has gone to history

Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways (JP/ADR), the member of Star Alliance went bankrupt. Bankruptcy was announced on September 30th. Adria Airways cancelled all flight operations last week on September 24th. For a few days, they continued to operate flights on route between Ljubljana and Frankfurt with a British Aerospace BAe 146-200, leased from German regional air carrier WDL Aviation (WH/WDL).

We have written briefly about the history of Adria Airways in an article last week:

[SQUAWK] Adria Airways has cancelled all flight operations

Slowly, other air carriers are reacting to Adria Airways bankruptcy, taking over their available routes. New routes to Ljubljana were announced by other Star Alliance members. The first will be Swiss International Air Lines (LX/SWR), with 5 flights a week on route Zürich – Ljubljana starting from October 16th, and later from October 27th, daily with Airbus A220-300. Lufthansa (LH/DLH) will inaugurate 2 daily flights on the route Frankfurt – Ljubljana starting from October 27th, and daily flights on route Munich – Ljubljana from November 1st. All Lufthansa flights will be operated by Canadair CRJ-900s. Brussels Airlines (SN/BEL) will inaugurate 6 weekly flights on route Bruxelles – Ljubljana starting from November 4th with Airbus A319.

Air Serbia (JU/ASL) and Montenegro Airlines (YM/MGX) announced increase of flight operations on routes from Belgrade and Podgorica to Ljubljana. None of the low cost air carriers have yet reacted on Adria Airways bankruptcy with inauguration of any new routes. On the contrary, it seems that the Hungarian low-cost air carrier Wizz Air (W6/WZZ) will be ending flight operations on routes from Ljubljana to Brussels (Charleroi) and London (Luton) after October 26th, according to the previous announcment.

Charter flights for tour agencies have been taken over by other air carriers. Among them is Croatia Airlines (OU/CTN), who has operated several charter flights from Zagreb to Greek destinations for Slovenian tour agencies.
