Lufthansa Group has announced a major new investment in the passenger experience, confirming plans to introduce high-speed broadband internet across its entire aircraft fleet. In cooperation with Starlink, the group will begin equipping around 850 aircraft from 2026 onwards, covering both the existing fleet and all newly delivered aircraft across its airlines.
The new connectivity solution is based on satellite technology and is designed to provide an onboard internet experience comparable to that on the ground. Significantly higher bandwidth and speeds will enable streaming, cloud-based work and the use of data-intensive digital applications during flights, regardless of travel class.
Lufthansa Group is also introducing a new pricing model for onboard connectivity. High-speed internet will be available free of charge to all status customers and Travel ID users in every cabin class, making the group the largest airline group in Europe to roll out Starlink technology on such a scale. According to the company, no other European airline group will equip more aircraft with this system.
The project forms part of Lufthansa Group’s broader investment programme covering new aircraft, cabin products and digital services across the entire travel chain, and comes in the year marking Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary. Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group, said that onboard connectivity now plays a key role in the overall travel experience and that selecting Starlink represents an investment in the best available product on the market as well as in passenger satisfaction.
The phased introduction of Starlink across Lufthansa Group aircraft is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, with the entire fleet scheduled to be equipped by 2029. Further technical and operational details are due to be announced later this year.
