British air carrier TUI Airways (BY/TOM) has increased capacity on the route London (Gatwick Airpot) – Rijeka during the post-season period. In October, this route will be operated with a larger Boeing 757-200s (in the picture) instead of the smaller Boeing 737-800s. There are 3 arrivals between October 3rd and 17th, every Thursday. At the same time, these are the first arrivals of TUI Airways to Rijeka with their own planes. This new route was inaugurated this year in May and previous flights were mostly operated with Boeing 737-800s leased from other air carriers, usually Norwegian Air Shuttle (D8/IBK).
Boeing 757-200s are very often used on TUI Airways routes to Dubrovnik and Pula Airport. Currently, TUI Airways has only 12 remaining Boeing 757-200s in its fleet. During history, they had more then 50 of these planes in the fleet, including the fleets of previous companies which were merged into current TUI Airways: Britannia Airways (BY/BAL), Thomson Airways (BY/TOM), Thomsonfly (BY/TOM), Air 2000 (DP/AMM) and First Choice Airways (DP/FCA). These planes will soon leave the TUI fleet completely, but their leaving was slowed down, because the ordered Boeing 737MAX8s are currently gounded.
