Based on the initiative of Osijek-Baranja County, the City of Osijek, the Osijek-Baranja County Tourist Board and Osijek Airport, Croatia Airlines and Osijek Airport signed an agreement on business cooperation in Osijek today, through which the Croatian national carrier will provide direct international flights on Osijek – Munich and thus enable the connection of eastern Croatia with Europe, creating conditions for the improvement of tourism, but also easier and faster travel of residents and businessmen of Osijek-Baranja County. The agreement was signed by Jasmin Bajić, President of the Management Board of Croatia Airlines, and Ivan Kos, Director of Osijek Airport.
Regular international flights on the Osijek – Munich route are introduced for the first time in the company’s history, and are planned for the period from November 15, 2021 to January 14, 2022, twice a week – on Mondays and Fridays. Passengers on this route will fly a 76-seat Dash 8-Q400 aircraft.
- We are glad that in the winter we will provide the inhabitants of Slavonia with a direct air connection with the German market, ie flights to an important European transport hub through which they will be able to travel around the world. I believe that direct flights Osijek – Munich will contribute to the development of tourist and economic potentials of Osijek-Baranja County and the city of Osijek, and at the same time strengthen the business of Osijek Airport, making it an even more important traffic point. With the new line, we reaffirm the continuous care for transport connections of all Croatian regions and the important role national airline in the transport infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia – said Jasmin Bajić, President of the Management Board of Croatia Airlines.
The director of Osijek Airport, Ivan Kos, noted:
- I have been at the airport for a little over four months and today I would like to highlight three key areas of activity in this period: partnership with all Croatian airports and the Croatian airline, long-term potential of Osijek Airport, and finally something that interests everyone now and immediately, and we would like these to be all three points and these are: Flights, Flights and Flights. My wish was to strengthen Osijek Airport through daily cooperation and partnership with other Croatian airports. We are working and will continue to work at full steam, but I believe that every step we take today must be with a view to a sustainable future. The second of the three directions of action includes the development of a master plan, renovation of infrastructure, cleaning and consolidation of land and defining future strategic partners of our airport. Symbolically, we wanted our first collaboration to be with Croatia, but we are also talking to foreign companies, more on that another occasion. It is up to all of us not to fly from Osijek to Munich for just one winter, but to make it a stable, long-term, well-filled line. We have a promotion time ahead of us so that we have as full planes as possible from November to January. Let’s hope for the normalization of the health condition and may we all be lucky.
Mayor Ivan Radić emphasized:
- With today’s signing of the contract between Osijek Airport and Croatia Airlines and the opening of the new Osijek-Munich route, one of our goals is being achieved, and that is that Osijek must be a regional transport center in every respect. By air, road, rail and river. The slogan of this summer’s promotion says “Only 100 minutes” and thus emphasizes that we are only 100 minutes away from Munich, or rather Munich is 100 minutes from Osijek. It is especially important to emphasize that we are connected to the whole world via Munich, because Munich offers direct flights to Frankfurt, Berlin, London, Vienna, Paris, and many other world destinations. The time has come to re-enter the coordinates of Osijek on the world map. Congratulations to Osijek Airport and Croatia Airlines on this move, and I will definitely visit Munich at the first opportunity.
Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Ivan Anušić said on this occasion:
- The joint work and activities of all local self-government units, including the City of Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County, is visible through this project of revitalization of the Osijek Airport. The Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, will soon be visiting, with whom we will announce a large project for the renovation of the passenger terminal building, which will lead to better functioning of air traffic. As for the newly introduced line Osijek – Munich, our goal is to keep it throughout the year, but also to introduce new international lines.
