U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations has ordered 10 new Airbus H125 helicopters, continuing the modernisation of its fleet used for border surveillance, law enforcement and public safety missions across the United States.
According to Airbus’ press release, the contract has been finalised for CBP AMO, the air and marine operational component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The new helicopters will be used for a range of operational tasks across the country, including patrol flights, surveillance, tactical operations and support for other security activities.
Airbus said the order reflects its long-standing cooperation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Bart Reijnen, Head of the North America Region for Airbus Helicopters, said the expansion of the H125 fleet demonstrates the trust CBP AMO places in the type for demanding public safety operations. He added that Airbus remains focused on supporting the agency with reliable aircraft and services needed to maintain high mission readiness.
The H125 is a light single-engine helicopter widely used in law enforcement and public safety aviation. According to Airbus, the platform is designed to operate in demanding conditions, offering excellent cockpit visibility, multi-mission flexibility and relatively low operating costs. These characteristics are particularly important for missions involving aerial surveillance, rapid deployment and operations over large areas.
The helicopters will be manufactured at Airbus’ facility in Columbus, Mississippi. In this configuration, the H125 includes a dual-channel full authority digital engine control system, an engine data recorder and a dual hydraulic flight control system as standard equipment. Airbus says these systems reduce pilot workload and improve safety during complex tactical flights.
The new order will further strengthen CBP AMO’s operational capabilities as the agency continues to use aviation and maritime assets for border protection, anti-smuggling operations, surveillance and support to other security agencies. The Airbus H125 therefore remains one of the key light helicopters in the public safety aviation segment in North America.
