Turkish Airlines and Boeing have finalized a major deal for the purchase of up to 150 aircraft from the 737 MAX family. The Turkish carrier has placed a firm order for 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, while the agreement also includes options for an additional 50 jets, making it the largest single Boeing narrowbody order in Turkish Airlines’ history.

The agreement was signed on September 23 in New York in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, concluding discussions on the major order that began during 2025.

In addition to the firm order for 100 737-8 aircraft, Turkish Airlines has secured substitution rights for part of the order to the larger Boeing 737-10. The largest member of the 737 MAX family would allow the carrier to increase capacity on routes with stronger demand, while the 737-8 is expected to form the backbone of the future renewal and expansion of its narrowbody fleet.

Murat Şeker, chairman of the board and executive committee of Turkish Airlines, said the new aircraft represent another step in the airline’s fleet expansion and are expected to improve both efficiency and operational flexibility. He particularly highlighted their role in the continued development of Turkish Airlines’ network from its major hub in Istanbul.

Turkish Airlines and its low-cost subsidiary AJet currently operate more than 200 Boeing aircraft combined. Their fleets include the 737 MAX, 737 Next Generation, 787 Dreamliner, 777 and 777F freighter. The new 737-8 aircraft will primarily be deployed on domestic and short- and medium-haul international routes.

Boeing states that the 737 MAX family reduces fuel consumption and emissions by around 20 percent compared with the previous-generation aircraft it replaces. For Turkish Airlines, which continues to rapidly expand its network and fleet, the new order is expected to support capacity growth while gradually replacing part of its older narrowbody fleet.

The new order continues Turkish Airlines’ major investment cycle with the U.S. manufacturer. In 2025, the carrier also ordered up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, expanding its long-haul fleet at the same time. The agreements with Boeing also include industrial cooperation and further involvement of Türkiye’s aviation sector in the U.S. manufacturer’s supply chain.

Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, described the new order as a continuation of the long-standing cooperation between the two companies and highlighted Boeing’s continued support for the expansion of Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul-based network.

Turkish Airlines currently operates a total fleet of 567 passenger and cargo aircraft and serves 358 destinations, including 305 international and 53 domestic points, across 133 countries. The acquisition of additional 737 MAX aircraft forms part of a broader fleet and capacity growth strategy aimed at supporting the continued expansion of the airline’s global network.
