In last week’s article “One Means None” – a campaign of European pilots against single pilot flight crew, we asked readers whether they would like to fly on a commercial airliner with only one pilot or no pilot.
Three answers were offered in the survey:
- YES – one pilot is enough to operate a commercial aircraft
- NO – I think two pilots are needed for a safe flight
- I would fly in an aircraft that is fully automated and has no flight crew in the cockpit
The survey was open for seven days, and 275 readers participated. Anonymous responses were collected.
Out of 275 readers, 271 responded with the answer “NO—I think it takes two pilots to fly safely.” 98.545% of readers agree with European pilots’ “one means none” campaign.
Only 4 readers, i.e. 1.455% of survey takers, responded, “I would fly in an airplane that is fully automated and has no flight crew in the cockpit.”
Not a single reader answered, “YES – one pilot is enough to fly a commercial aircraft”.
