RECARO Aircraft Seating has unveiled the R4, a new-generation aircraft seat designed for premium passenger cabins. The new model succeeds the PL3530, introduced in 2015, with the manufacturer placing particular emphasis on ergonomics, passenger comfort and greater flexibility for airlines.

The R4 has already received ETSO certification for installation on the Boeing 787, while certification processes for additional aircraft types are still underway. The first deliveries began in June 2026, with entry into commercial service expected by the end of the year.

The new seat features a 16-inch screen and a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support. Other features include side ambient lighting and privacy wings with an integrated individual reading light. Depending on the configuration selected by the airline, passengers will also have access to various power options for their electronic devices.

Another notable feature is a side console designed to facilitate access for passengers with reduced mobility. The R4 also introduces an extra-wide single-plate tray table with a soft open-and-close mechanism and an integrated holder for smartphones and tablets.

Airlines will be able to customise the seat’s colours, materials and finishes to match their visual identity. This approach enables different cabin designs without requiring the development of an entirely separate product for each customer.
