Qatar Airways has become the first airline in the world to introduce Starlink internet connectivity on the Boeing 787-9. At the same time, the carrier has completed installation of the system across its entire Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet, bringing the total number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft in its fleet to 150.

The installation programme on the 787-8 fleet was completed in just seven months, while work is now continuing on the 787-9. Qatar Airways expects its entire Boeing 787 fleet to be equipped with Starlink by the end of 2026.

The Boeing 787 therefore joins the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets on which the Qatari carrier has already completed extensive satellite internet installation programmes. The Boeing 777 programme was completed in nine months, while the Airbus A350 rollout took eight months. According to Qatar Airways, more than 83% of the planned Starlink installation programme across its widebody fleet has now been completed.

The pace of the rollout is also evident when compared with the beginning of the year. In January 2026, Qatar Airways had just under 120 Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft, including the first three Boeing 787-8s. Seven months later, that number has risen to 150.

Starlink entered regular service with Qatar Airways in October 2024. Since then, more than 23 million passengers have connected to the system on over 86,000 Qatar Airways flights. The carrier can currently operate up to 323 Starlink-equipped flights per day.

The system provides internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps, allowing passengers to use services that were often limited with traditional inflight connectivity systems, including video calls, content streaming and working with larger amounts of data.

Qatar Airways offers Starlink at no additional charge, with connectivity integrated with Privilege Club membership authentication. Internet access is available from boarding until arrival at the gate, commonly referred to as “gate-to-gate” connectivity, although the service may be unavailable at certain airports due to local regulatory requirements.

The airline has already expanded Starlink across its long-haul and ultra-long-haul network spanning six continents, including flights to North and South America and Australia, as well as numerous destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Qatar Airways was also the first airline to introduce Starlink on the Boeing 787-8. When that programme began in early 2026, the carrier had already completed installation across its entire Airbus A350 fleet and its Boeing 777 fleet.

With the introduction of the first Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9, Qatar Airways is continuing one of the most extensive satellite internet installation programmes ever undertaken across a widebody passenger fleet. If the planned rollout remains on schedule, Starlink should be available across the airline’s entire Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026.
