Dutch flag carrier KLM has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900, marking the introduction of a new widebody aircraft type into its long-haul fleet. The delivery, announced by Airbus on 2 October, forms part of the Air France-KLM Group airline’s fleet renewal programme. The new aircraft will operate from KLM’s home base at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to long-haul destinations, including Toronto.

KLM’s A350-900 accommodates a total of 331 passengers across three cabin classes. Business Class features 34 individual suites with direct aisle access, while Premium Comfort offers 26 seats. The remaining 271 seats are in Economy Class, allowing the airline to maintain its three-tier service offering on long-haul flights with the new aircraft type.

The aircraft features Airbus’s Airspace cabin, with larger overhead luggage compartments, advanced ambient lighting and high-speed satellite connectivity. According to the manufacturer, the cabin layout and improved ergonomics are designed to enhance passenger comfort and support crew during long flights.

The introduction of the A350 expands KLM’s Airbus fleet, which, according to the announcement, comprises ten A330 Family aircraft and 17 A321neos. While the A321neo supports the renewal of the airline’s short- and medium-haul fleet, the arrival of the A350 marks another step in the modernisation of its long-haul operations.

Airbus states that the A350 Family’s aerodynamic design, lightweight materials and latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines deliver approximately 25 per cent lower fuel consumption, operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft. By the end of August 2026, the A350 Family had secured more than 1,620 orders from 69 customers worldwide.
