Faster and Easier Travel Between Spain and Italy: Partnership Between iryo and ITA Airways

Travelers between Spain and Italy now have a more convenient option thanks to a new partnership between Spanish high-speed rail operator iryo and Italian airline ITA Airways. The agreement allows passengers to book a single reservation for combined train and air travel, significantly simplifying the journey between the two countries.

With this integration, ITA Airways passengers can easily reach Spanish cities such as Córdoba, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, and Málaga using Frecciarossa high-speed trains, while iryo passengers will gain access to over 20 Italian airports, including Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, and Naples.

For the FS Group, Europe is not just a market; it is a strategic opportunity for developing integrated and sustainable mobility. Trains play a crucial role in connecting European cities, and intermodality becomes the heart of a transport system that reduces CO₂ emissions and improves quality of life,” said Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, CEO of the FS Group.

The agreement with iryo is part of ITA Airways’ broader strategy to strengthen intermodal travel and enhance connectivity between Italy and Spain.

This collaboration further expands our offering in the Spanish market and highlights our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer focus. Our goal is to provide more efficient and seamless travel between the two countries, offering connections from our hub in Rome to Madrid and Barcelona, and then onward to multiple Spanish destinations,” said Joerg Eberhart, CEO of ITA Airways.

Passengers will be able to purchase combined tickets through the ITA Airways website, authorized travel agencies, and the airline’s ticket offices. Train tickets will also be available via the iryo website or can be requested via email at the time of booking.

This partnership comes at a crucial time for European transportation, as the focus on sustainable travel and reducing environmental impact continues to grow. High-speed trains, such as Frecciarossa, are already recognized as a more eco-friendly alternative to short-haul flights within Europe.

ITA Airways currently offers 84 weekly flights between Spain and Italy, while iryo, Spain’s first private high-speed rail operator, has transported over 13 million passengers since launching its services. This new travel option will further simplify and enhance connectivity between the two countries, making journeys faster, more convenient, and more environmentally friendly.
