Edelweiss expands fleet and introduces first Airbus A320neo

Edelweiss, a member of the Lufthansa Group and Switzerland’s leading leisure carrier, has announced the expansion of its short-haul fleet, which will grow to a total of 16 aircraft by 2026. The airline will take over two aircraft from its sister company Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). An Airbus A320 registered HB-JLQ, currently 14.4 years old, will join the fleet in October 2025, while in April 2026, the Airbus A320neo (HB-JDB, built in 2020) will arrive as the first new-generation aircraft in Edelweiss’ livery.

Edelweiss’ current fleet consists of 14 Airbus A320-200 serving its European and Mediterranean network, as well as five wide-body Airbus A340-300. The latter are being phased out and replaced by modern Airbus A350-900 aircraft, three of which have already been delivered and are in service on long-haul routes. With this move, Edelweiss is further strengthening its position at the Zurich hub and entering a new stage of fleet modernization.

“I am delighted that Edelweiss continues to expand its short- and medium-haul network and that with this step, we are taking an important stride in modernizing our fleet. The Airbus A320neo combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with enhanced comfort for our passengers,” said Edelweiss CEO Bernd Bauer.

The new A320neo consumes at least 15 percent less fuel compared to its predecessor, produces lower emissions, and is significantly quieter, which benefits the environment and enables the airline to operate longer routes within its European network.
