Delta reinstates the longest domestic route in the United States between Boston and Honolulu

U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines is reclaiming the title of operator of the longest domestic route in the United States this winter by restoring nonstop service between Boston Logan International Airport and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. Flights on the Boston–Honolulu route will resume on December 19, 2026, operating four times weekly, with an increase to daily frequency during the peak holiday travel period.

The route spans approximately 8,100 kilometers (around 5,030 miles), making it the longest domestic service within the United States, linking the East Coast and Hawaii without a technical stop. Scheduled flight time to Honolulu is 11 hours and 40 minutes, while the return sector is shorter at 9 hours and 55 minutes. Delta will deploy widebody Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route, offering higher capacity and enhanced long-haul comfort, including Delta One business class, Premium Select, and the Main Cabin.

The return of this service signals a strong recovery and sustained demand for long-haul leisure travel to Hawaii, particularly from major metropolitan areas along the East Coast. In recent years, Boston has evolved into one of Delta’s key hubs in the northeastern United States, and the restoration of nonstop service to Honolulu further strengthens that position.

In addition to the Boston route, Delta is launching a new nonstop connection between Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport and Kahului Airport on the island of Maui. The service will operate five times weekly, with plans to increase to daily flights during the holiday season and spring break. This addition gives Minneapolis a second Hawaiian destination within Delta’s network.

The airline is also increasing capacity to Hawaii from its major hubs in Atlanta, Detroit, and New York (JFK), reaffirming renewed confidence in the long-haul leisure segment. Amid strong competition on transpacific domestic routes, the reinstatement of Boston–Honolulu is also a symbolic move through which Delta once again assumes the status of operator of the longest domestic route in the United States.
