A Chinese-made aircraft, the Comac C919, is nearing EASA certification, it was announced after the European regulator’s second visit to the Chinese manufacturer. Although the C919 is already flying within China, the aircraft does not have the regulatory approvals to represent Comac’s ambitions, which is a worthy competitor to Airbus and Boeing.
According to the South China Morning Post, the EU regulator gave positive feedback after a visit in July, which included, among other things, testing of the C919 aircraft’s Level D flight simulator. The mentioned visit is part of EASA’s certification process in which compliance with the strict certification requirements is demonstrated, which aims to determine whether all necessary parts of the aircraft comply with the regulatory requirements.
Although there is no official confirmation for this, this act opens the door to testing the aircraft in flight for the European regulator, and thus the final certification that Comac wants by the end of 2025.
