As Croatia Airlines’ latest Airbus A220-300, registered as 9A-CAI, carried the Croatian handball team home, they received a hero’s welcome. The Croatian Air Force’s multi-role Rafale fighter jets soared alongside, ceremoniously escorting the team into Croatian airspace and toward Franjo Tuđman Airport.
Upon their entry into national airspace, Croatian air traffic control delivered a heartfelt message to the silver-winning handball players:
“Dear handball players, the Croatian Air Navigation Control extends its sincere congratulations on achieving the title of world vice-champions. Thank you again for elevating Croatia to the top of world handball.”
The pilots of the Croatian Air Force also greeted the team, emphasizing their fighting spirit and unity:
“A big greeting to the Croatian handball team! The pilots of the Croatian Air Force congratulate you on this incredible and historic success. Your combativeness, passion, unity, and sportsmanship have brought us great joy and pride. The whole of Croatia celebrates your medal! Welcome home.”
As a gesture of gratitude to Croatia for its immense support during the Handball World Championship, the Rafale fighter jets and the aircraft carrying the national team performed a symbolic flyover above Ban Jelačić Square, where the central celebration was held. Thousands of fans gathered to welcome their heroes and celebrate this historic achievement in Croatian handball.
